Looking to encourage positive play and reduce the number of draws the LV County Championship has a new points formula this year. Initially there was talk of completely scrapping points for a draw but the ECB's cricket committee rejected this proposal, the ECB however plans to increase the number of points for a win from 14 to 16 and reduce the draws points from four down to three. Bonus points will for the time being remain as they were although will not be available for the 120 overs of the first innings any longer, this figure having been cut to 110.

The Friends Provident T20 provides domestic fans with the 'sexy cricket' that is Twenty20 involving the 18 First Class Counties being split into 2 geographical groups and competing from the 1st June. The showpiece of finals day will be held on August 14th at the Rose Bowl.
