The world of ODI cricket looks forward expectantly to the ICC World cup to be staged in February and March 2011 across three nations. India, Sri Lanka and new to world cup hosting Bangladesh will share the matches between them as fourteen countries battle it out in search of the crown wedged very firmly on Australia's head as winners of the previous three tournaments.

The tournament should have had a fourth host nation but Pakistan were stripped of that honour following the 2009 attack in Lahore on the Sri Lanka national team with their allocation of matches being shared between the remaining host nations.

The format for the world cup has been revised since the 2007 tournament starting with two groups of seven teams each playing an initial round robin with the top four from each group qualifying for the quarter finals. The tournament goes on from there in a traditional knock-out style culminating in the final to be played in Mumbai.
